Thallus to 8 cm wide, foliose, membranous, loosely adnate. Lobes to 1.5 (–2) mm wide, irregularly folded, undulate, sometimes partly ascending, matt, dark olive-green to blackish green to dark brown; margins entire; isidia crowded, sometimes covering centre of thallus, to 0.3 mm tall, globose, sometimes becoming cylindrical. Apothecia scattered, to 2.5 mm wide, sessile, constricted at base; disc flat, becoming convex, smooth, matt, epruinose, pale to dark red; thalline exciple thin, entire, smooth or subrugulose. Asci 70–100 × 15–20 µm. Ascospores 42–65 × 4–6.5 µm, narrowly ellipsoidal to fusiform, usually straight with acute and sometimes extended ends, 4–5-celled, not constricted. Pycnidia common, to 200 µm wide, laminal; pycnidial gel pale yellow. Conidia 4–4.5 × 1–1.5 µm, straight, slightly swollen towards ends. | ||
Widely distributed in the Northern Hemisphere, occuring also in S.A., Qld, N.S.W., A.C.T., Vic., Tas. and New Zealand. | ||
